Scott Schimmel and Lisa Sorensen opened the first Bliss store in 2003 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Since then, the company has grown into a downtown Knoxville mainstay. In 2017, Bliss & Tori Mason Shoes relocated and combined into one downtown Knoxville location, where they offer an alternative to the standard retail experience with clothing, shoes and gifts. Bliss Home opened in West Knoxville in 2008. The entrepreneurs expanded again in 2014, opening Bliss Home near downtown Nashville. The third Bliss Home, and first out-of-state location, opened in Louisville, Kentucky in August 2017.
Schimmel and Sorensen won the Rising Star Award from the Tennessee Small Business Center in November 2013. Since its inception, Bliss and Bliss Home have repeatedly been recognized as Best Store, Best Furniture Store, Best Gift Store, and Best Women's Clothing Store by the Metro Pulse Readers Poll.
Bliss Home was voted a Knoxville favorite in the 2017 Knoxville News Sentinel Best of East Tennessee poll; 2017 City View Magazine Best of the Best; and 2016, 2017 Nashville Scene Best of Nashville Awards. Bliss and Bliss Home have been featuring in national and regional publications and television networks, including Southern Living Magazine, Nashville Scene, Nashville Lifestyles, Louisville Magazine, TOPS Louisville, Design Sponge, DIY, and HGTV.
